FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BELLINGHAM – Today Dan McShane filed his intent to run for Mayor of Bellingham with the state Public Disclosure Commission.

Dan is a geologist who owns a geology and environmental consulting business in downtown Bellingham. He's lived in Bellingham's York neighborhood with his family since 1989. Dan has served on the Whatcom County Council since 2000.

Proven leadership
Dan has a strong record of leadership and of open and respectful government. While on the County Council Dan successfully brought forward legislation to protect Lake Whatcom, save farmland, acquire open space and protect public safety. During his time on the Council he has held the line on taxes and on sprawl.

"It takes a leader to help people see both their neighborhood and the whole community. Dan is that leader," said Rodd Pemble, resident of the Birchwood neighborhood.

"We are one of America's best small cities not only because of our spectacular setting, but because of our strong local economy, livable neighborhoods and community of talented and diverse people," said Dan McShane, candidate for mayor of Bellingham. "Our brightest future lies in meeting our growth challenges with vision and follow-through. We can do that, and we can make Bellingham an even better place to live. I will invest in our neighborhoods, prioritize solutions for Lake Whatcom and make sure we keep our high standards of police and emergency services."

"Dan makes sure citizens are heard and respected," said Linda Grant. "He has a commitment to open, transparent government and that's important to me in a mayor."

Community Celebration Planned
In celebration, Team McShane invites all of Bellingham to join them for a community party at the Depot Market, at Railroad and Chestnut, 6:00 p.m. on March 3rd. There will be music by the Atlantics, free Mallard's Ice Cream and local restaurants such as India Grill will have food available for purchase. Voter registration will be available. "We have a great team of people excited about working on this campaign so we're throwing a party for the whole community," said Donna Ringwald, campaign volunteer.  "Join us!"
