Leadership & Accomplishment on the County Council
I've been proud to serve District 1 on the Whatcom County Council since 2000 and my record demonstrates the kind of hard work and open approach to government that I'll bring to the job of Mayor. On the County Council I put Whatcom County on a new path—one where the environment is protected, government is open and transparent, basic services are funded and improved and spending is efficient.
In my time on the County Council I vigorously pushed through ordinance after ordinance—more than 20 successful ordinances in all—to make Whatcom County a better place for all of us to live. At every step I looked for ways for the County to be more efficient with your money by pushing to cut funds for projects that didn't provide benefits to the broader community. I'm a scientist. I look at issues by laying out the facts, talking to citizens and making decisions that benefit the community as a whole. That's my record and that will be my approach as mayor. You can count on me to bring a new way forward to Bellingham.
